Trumpeter Sturer Emil

Ted Herman

Having little or no knowledge of this vehicle before Trumpeter announced it’s release, I was intrigued at the possibility of building a model, that, in real life, only two were ever produced. After researching on the net and bugging my online friends for as much information as possible, it was realized that the Emil had a long career considering the circumstances. After collecting as many photographs as possible and obtaining several articles on this machine, I decided it was time to start my build.
A word about the kits used. As pictured below, I based this build on Trumpeter’s excellent offering. I also opted to use Voyager Models very extensive set of photo-etched upgrade parts. As the build progressed, Armorscale released a barrel and mantlet set for this and LionMark released a set of Resin Tracks. More on each of these later. I also purchased a set of MV Lenses, .101” diameter clear lenses for use in the armored headlamps.
I began the build with the lower hull. The kit fenders were removed and the seams cleaned up. From my references, I saw some predominant welds that would need to be added. These were achieved with Aves Apoxie Sculpt and several small jeweler’s beading tools.
